jfriedl, 1 year ago | FlagHey Chris thanks for the wrap-up,
Independent of age differences, can someone of Lance's physical stature compete head to head against a rider like Alberto (135lbs) who can now seem to time trial? It seems as though it used to be that the lighter weight riders were the natural climbers and the heavier ones sprinters and time-trial experts. That characterization has seemed to have changed.
As you mentioned, Lance can accelerate on his terms and has the stamina and, most importantly, the ability to recover that still puts him in the upper ranks of professional riders. Will his experience and that of his director, be more valuable to Lance next year on a team that is dedicated to his success? Will it be enough to displace the talent that his younger riders possess so he can improve on a great 2009 tour?
Any lessons for us older riders who are trying to sneak one by the younger folks in our Saturday group ride so we are not stuck with the coffee/beer tab? Maybe you cover that in your latest book. (softball sized segue if you would like to take it) I am looking forward to reading it.
Cheers.
Just back from France, Chris Carmichael
