    • Astana Team Car during Tour of California

    • CTS Premier Coach and sports scientist Dean Golich is going to be doing a lot of traveling with Lance Armstrong and the Astana Pro Cycling Team this year, and in February he was in the team car during the Amgen Tour of California. If you're looking for a different view of a bike race, you ought to see it from the inside of team cars.
    • Lance Climbing in Hawaii Pre-Tour Down Under

    • I was with Lance in Hawaii just after the New Year as he was completing a training camp in preparation for the first real pro race of his comeback: the Tour Down Under. This video has a lot of good footage of Lance on a big, steep climb outside of Kona. The last mile is something like a 17% grade. The motorbike even started to have trouble, but not Lance. He powered up the climb in 46:44. I did it a few days later and it took me 1:15:00.
    • Lance Lactate Threshold Test

    • While at Mellow Johnny's in Austin, Texas, - and just a few days after returning from the Astana Training Camp in Tenerife, Spain - Lance Armstrong performed a lactate threshold test so Chris Carmichael, Dean Golich, and Kevin Livingston could continue to monitor his progress. The results were great - a 25 watt increase in his power at lactate threshold, and physiological evidence that his body is burning more fat for fuel than it was a few months ago.
    • Lance Armstrong Aero Testing on Velodrome: Nov 5, 2008

    • Following a successful day in the wind tunnel, Lance put his new aerodynamic positions to the test on the velodrome. By running several 2-kilometer tests with different positions and constant speeds, we were able to determine which position adjustments allowed him to use the least power to maintain 50 kilometers per hour.
    • "Running" the Incline

    • I went to "run" The Incline in Manitou Springs this morning with CTS Coaches Jim Lehman and Jason Koop. Truth be told, there's no running involved on a slope where the grade exceeds 50% at times. It's basically straight up an old cog railway line. Hard, but a great workout - like doing one-legged squats for 30+ minutes. I did it in 38 minutes today, which was my first time. 30 minutes is a good time and I'm shooting for that by the end of the winter.
    • Lance in the Wind Tunnel - Nov 4, 2008

    • Lance had a very productive day in the wind tunnel, and not only did we confirm that his 2005 position was a good one, but we foud ways to bring his drag numbers down even more. Check it out.

  • Question: I downloaded CTS Comeback Training Plan. I am inexperienced reading workout shorthand. When the Back in the Saddle Plan prescribes "60 min EM with 3x3min FP, 5min RBI" what is the actual sequence of activities with times for each? I understand that the total workout is 60 minutes, and I understand the definitions described for EM, FP, and RBI. However, I don't know how to interpret the shorthand to know how to sequenceand perform these actions. Can you help me understand this?
